IT Security and support for

Medical Practices

Questions all medical practices need to ask themselves
  • How challenging is it to keep up with your IT needs? Is it getting worse or better?
  • About how much time do you spend each week on your technology? This includes things like software upgrades, security, and managing your computer network? If you aren’t spending the time, aren’t you concerned with the risk you’re putting yourself in?
  • To what degree has COVID-19 affected how you approach IT and how much time you spend on it? Has it been a challenge to do more patient visits by telehealth?
  • Do you keep up with various cybersecurity threats and risks? How protected do you think your office is against ransomware, malware, and phishing attacks?
  • How much support are you getting from your EHR vendor and other software and hardware providers?
  • Are you familiar with how and if your various systems connect with each other?
  • Do you have a current MSP vendor, and if so, what is your favorite thing about them? What’s one thing you would change about them?
  • If you don’t have an MSP, do you feel your staff is well-equipped to handle IT needs in-house? Have you considered ways to outsource or otherwise free up staff time to do other things?
  • Are any staff working remotely? Have you considered how secure the data on their desktop/laptop is?
What we're seeing in the healthcare industry
  • One thing we’re hearing is that physicians are more pressed for time than ever. Administrative burdens are always a problem, but they’ve grown worse with the rise in telehealth visits and drop in patient volume, possibly even causing revenue losses.
  • A big part of the time crunch from poor IT is around how much time it takes to track all the things that help you get paid. This includes things like quality metrics and prior authorizations. Sometimes doctors report they just don’t have any time left over to think about critical office functions such as the health of their IT network or data security.
  • We’re also seeing a huge rise in cybersecurity threats in healthcare. It picked up last fall—in fact, the FBI, HHS, and CISA (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) announced a threat advisory in October. (Source: Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (A Division of US Homeland Security)) Several health systems reported lengthy EHR downtime from the ransomware attack. It’s a serious threat. Cybercriminals view health care data as highly valuable.
  • Speaking of security, with health care changing so quickly, it’s getting harder to keep up. That’s where we come in—it’s our job to keep up. Your focus should be on what’s happening with your patients and in health care, while leaving IT and security to us. A perfect example is telehealth—physicians can make good use of telehealth to treat patients, while we help create a secure environment for telehealth.

Keeping Up

The challenges keep coming for medical practices. Administrative burdens, regulations, value-based payment models, quality measures, patient satisfaction goals, and complex EHRs are a regular part of the job these days. Not to mention the pandemic and its effects—including a loss of patient volume and the urgent need to embrace telehealth. As a physician, you want to keep your focus on delivering outstanding patient care. The last thing you need is an IT infrastructure that adds to your non-clinical workload. That’s where we come in. Our experience in IT managed services can help you reduce administrative hassles and assist in developing a stable and secure computing environment for your practice.

The good news?
